On 12 November 2019, the DLC in partnership with the Kent Integrated Care Alliance (KICA) hosted a Digital and Innovation event with the care sector. The event followed one earlier this year and was designed to update care providers on progress with the KCC Adult Social Care Being Digital Strategy, NHS digital plans, promote new tools such as Magpie Digital Capabilities Self-Assessment Tool, skills for care digital readiness tool and showcase the Help4Carers app

The event was well attended with 65 people joining the seeion to hear from invited speakers, take part in an innovation workshop and see robo cat and robo dog launched, which are both free to hire!

So why are we focusing on supporting the sector with technology?

There is an expectation that taking advantage of digital technology can help address some of the challenges the health and social care sector faces. These challenges include the increase in demand for services alongside less money available to pay for services. As well as these challenges, the expectation of our staff and people who use services is shifting towards being more digital.

Technology and innovation is one of the 2019/20 priorities for CQC chief inspector, we therefore need to support the sector in embracing technology to complement and enhance care and improve quality.
