Overview of Our Work

Our work is underpinned by a methodology with the aim to go from problem to an evaluated solution within one year.

The work the Design and Learning Centre is focused on finding and delivering solutions to the challenges being faced by the health and social care system.

The solutions that the Design and Learning Centre are looking at cover a range of areas including:

  • Technology
  • Workforce
  • New Ways of Working
  • New Care Models

Our work is underpinned by a methodology with the aim to go from problem to an evaluated solution within one year. To achieve this our methodology sets out a number of stages that our projects work through:

  • Preliminary Stage: Clearly identify a challenge to be addressed with evidence to support this
  • Stage 1: Identification of potential solutions and required resources
  • Stage 2: Co-design implementation with professionals and the citizens of Kent
  • Stage 3: Implementation
  • Stage 4: Evaluation
  • Post Project Stage: Dissemination

A key feature of the methodology is the focus on evaluation to really put the solutions we have identified to the test to make sure they are sustainable and effective. In order to evaluate our solutions, we use a range of tools such as the Kent Integrated Dataset and Kent Integrated Care Evaluation framework developed by the University of Kent’s Centre for Health Service Studies.

The Design and Learning Centre has been given permission from the Erasmus University Rotterdam’s School of Health Policy & Management to use the SELFIE Framework. We will be using the SELFIE Framework as a tool to report outcomes from our projects.
